Saugus Dispatcher Credited With Saving Newborn

SAUGUS (AP) — A police dispatcher in Saugus is being credited with saving the life of a newborn boy.

Interim Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti says dispatcher Ryan Bancroft received the frantic 911 call early Monday from a man saying his wife was giving birth inside their minivan. She had him pull over and sent two officers to the scene.

Giorgetti says the baby was born as dispatcher Bancroft stayed on the phone with the father. But, he says the boy was unresponsive with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.

Giorgetti says Bancroft instructed the man on how to unwrap the cord and perform CPR. As he was doing that, the baby started breathing and crying.

Two officers arrived a short time later and stayed with the family until they were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

All involved are reportedly doing well.
